For Fukui: Ryosuke Takamura Photographs His Home

Fukui-based photographer, Ryosuke Takamura uses his camera to capture the evolution of his expression and the beauty of the quiet prefecture in which he lives.

Drawing thematically on things that are both hidden and seen, Ryosuke’s photography is an attempt to tell his own story: “When I see other photographers photos and find their thoughts, I feel like I could talk to them and want to get to know them. I wanted to do the same thing, I wanted people to find my hidden thoughts and to speak to other people through my photos.” This articulation of self is intimately bound with his home in Fukui: a prefecture that is not widely known outside of Japan — and even there, Ryosuke explains, it is often the “last place people think of.” Ryosuke is determined the change external perceptions of his home through his lens. “I take and show pictures of Fukui where I was born, and where I grew up,” he explains. “I want to transmit them all over Japan, and even the whole world… I would love for people to feel the attraction of Fukui through my photos.”
