Queen Elizabeth II Sends Letter to Toddler With Queen Halloween Costume

Young children enjoy to participate in make imagine and gown up, and what superior way is there for a little one to wholly change than with with a costume? Two-year-old Jalayne Sutherland hit the jackpot with the excellent costume very last Halloween, on her pretty first check out. This past yr, when she was just a 1-12 months-aged, the adorable toddler donned a white wig, a powder blue overcoat with matching hat and gloves, and a string of stylish pearls to costume up as Queen Elizabeth II. The finest part—little Jalayne even posed with two lovely corgis by her side, executing her royal transformation to perfection.

Sporting her regal ensemble, the 2-calendar year-old’s resemblance to Her Majesty is essentially very hanging. And apart from remaining a amazing costume strategy, the complete issue is also ridiculously lovable. “The most important inspiration for the outfit was the truth that our canines are our daughter’s best good friends,” states Jalayne’s mother, Katelyn Sutherland. “We wanted to do some thing the place they could all be integrated alongside one another.” And, of training course, when imagining of thoughts involving corgis, The Queen was one of the to start with views that came to brain as she is nicely recognized for her appreciate of dogs—corgis especially.

But the finest element of all is that Jalayne’s costume obtained the royal stamp of acceptance from Queen Elizabeth herself. Following getting heaps of compliments on the costume, Jalayne’s mother resolved to deliver a letter to The Queen with a photo of the toddler dressed in her likeness. Sutherland says it was throughout the time when The Queen was unwell and she’d hoped it may cheer her up, but she surely wasn’t anticipating a response. Nevertheless, just a pair of months later on, on December 27, she opened her mailbox and was surprised to uncover a letter dealt with to her daughter and embossed with the royal seal of Windsor Castle.

Penned by Her Majesty’s girl-in-ready, Hon. Marry Morrison, the correspondence expresses The Queen’s delight and gratitude at the image. “The Queen needs me to create and thank you for your letter, and for the photograph you thoughtfully enclosed,” the missive reads. “Her Majesty imagined it sort of you to compose to her, and The Queen was delighted to see the photograph of your daughter, Jalayne, in her splendid outfit. Her Majesty hopes you all have a really Merry Xmas, and I am enclosing a little data about the Royal Animals, which Jalayne may like to have.”

Needless to say, the Sutherlands have been thrilled and completely honored to get the letter. Handful of individuals can say that The Queen of England complimented their Halloween costume—especially following dressing up specifically like her. The only concern now is how they’ll best this kind of a strike this yr.

Artist Sayna Soleimanpour performs a photoshoot in protest against the mistreatment and alienation of Turkish women based on their clothing, during a two-day curfew amid the spread of the coronavirus disease, on a deserted street in Istanbul, Turkey, December, 2020.

For most of us, the COVID lockdowns represented a time of confinement and restriction. For Sayna Soleimanpour, the Iranian photographer also known by her Instagram handle @saynarte, the lockdowns also meant a sudden and unprecedented freedom to move through the Turkish city she lives in as she – and the other women there – never have before.

“Here in Turkey, it’s considered shameful for a woman to wear a skirt in public, or even to use her body freely,” she says. “If you’re feeling sexy one day and decide to take a walk down the street wearing an outfit that expresses that, you’ll be met with unwelcome glances and harassment – and sometimes even assault. If you’re going to wear something sexy, you’d really only do it at home.”

But with the lockdown came a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to venture out in public wearing exactly what she wanted – without having to worry about people’s reactions or judgements. “We were under a strict curfew here in Turkey, but I applied for permission to go outside. I traveled around the streets freely in the outfit I wanted to wear, and took self-portraits all over Istanbul. I’d normally experience violence for wearing something like this, but the ones who’d be making the aggressive or sexist comments were stuck inside,” Sayna says. “I had the city all to myself. And yes, this series was supposed to be fun. But it also represents my fight.”

Photoshop Contest Participants Give A Glimpse Of What If Giants Lived Among Us

There was a time when Photoshop contests were frequent among digital artists. Specialized sites brought their members daily fun themes to challenge their creativity and talents. The company Design Crowd has carried the torch since 2014, and continued these contests.

Here is a contest theme called “Exaggeration City” where people had to use Photoshop to create giants living routinely with people. Here are the best works selected out of 17 contests in total.

The level of these works is not professional by any means, but they’re sufficiently entertaining and fun. All of the Photoshop greats had to start somewhere, and contests like this are a great ground for practice.

Real-Life Orc: Brazilian Tattoo Artist Has Giant Tusks Implanted to Resemble Fictional Creature

A 41-year-old tattoo artist and body modification enthusiast who calls himself Orc had two giant fake tusks fitted onto his bottom row of teeth, in an attempt to make himself look like a real-life orc.

Orc, who hails from the Brazilian town of Iguatemi, in Mato Grosso do Sul, got his first tattoo at the age of 15, and has since developed a passion for tattoos and body modifications, undergoing several procedures that have left him looking rather unique. The 41-year-old father of one has both eyes tattooed black, about 80% of his body covered in ink, a split tongue, several subdermal implants and sliced ears, but it’s his mouth that draws most people’s attention. Orc spent over $500 having a pair of large tusks fitted over his bottom teeth to make himself look like the fictional creature depicted in popular films and video games like Warcraft.

"Fear Must Abyss": A Coronavirus Sculpture Was Burned in Russia

The dark wooden sculpture of coronavirus was burned in Voronezh, Russia. It was made by the famous wood carver Alexander Ivchenko. He decided to cut the figure COVID-19 after his whole family had got over infection.

"Fear Must Abyss": A Coronavirus Sculpture Was Burned in Russia

“One morning I woke up with a thought: what could a coronavirus sawn from a tree look like? I was drawn a kind of trinity. The balloon is our planet. On one half of the continents, the oceans. The second half is the mask of death, which devours the planet. And all together – the virus with its offshoots. It is true that the offshoots are not mace-shaped, but the wrong ones are rhizomes. This is more terrible,” – explains Alexander.

Ivchenko used a birch tree for his work, which was brought to him from Lipetsk region two years ago. It took about two hours to saw the “coronavirus”. Alexander confessed that it was not a pity to burn it at all.

"Fear Must Abyss": A Coronavirus Sculpture Was Burned in Russia

“Those, who were sick, know this feeling of broken glass in the lungs or even hot, undersized bricks. But what is strange… I have been ill before. And I have been sicker – that’s for sure. But it’s been a long time since I was so scared,” the sculptor continues. “Everyone is tired of the unknown, tired of being afraid. The action, at least some of it in itself is a great relief. So, according to the plan, after burning, there should be an abyss of fear. At least – mine. At the most – for those who looked at it.”

"Fear Must Abyss": A Coronavirus Sculpture Was Burned in Russia

“Originally, it was a very individual action for me. That’s why I climbed to hell on the eco-trail. There are no roads even there. When they started calling and asking for permission to shoot, I reasoned as follows: if people need to see what I did, let the universe deal with it.”

Halloween, the high holy day of spooky season, has a sort of Spooky Scale that runs the gamut from the casual black cat, full moon, or harmless jack-o’-lantern to the extremes of disembodied corpses, chainsaw massacre enactments or, even scarier, the thought of paying bills every month under the terror of COVID-19.

Local artist Steven Novak finds himself comfortably at the “horrifying” end of the scale, as his East Dallas neighbors and the Dallas Police Department will surely attest.

“I’ve always been up to hijinks like flying ghosts or 7-foot tall snow sculptures of myself, so if I was gonna do Halloween, it was obvious that it should be hyperreal,” Novak says. “No lights, fog machine, or camp … something that would really freak people out walking by in the dark. So I whipped up some dummies and slung 20 gallons of blood all over.”

“I’m most proud of the wheelbarrow tipped over by the street full of Hefty bags, looking like a failed attempt to dispose of the dismembered bodies in the middle of the night.” Novak says. “A kid walked by and asked me what happened to them; I said they ate too many Skittles.”

“It was raining a lot and washing the blood away so I indefatigably ‘watered’ the bodies every morning for a while to the dismay of early dog walkers and joggers saying as they passed ‘Watering the bodies!’”

While some people embrace Halloween hijinks, Novak gives them a bear hug. Only it’s a zombie bear with blood pouring out of its mouth. Novak’s decorations have brought the police to his house multiple times.
