There comes the special moment in life when one finishes education and starts a new, important chapter. To breathe a bit after the graduation, London-based photographer Katie Silvester has set off for an incredible road trip through United States with her boyfriend.

“By the end of it all, all we knew is that a life on the road is something we needed to do long term.”
Having traveled 10,000 miles from Florida to California and back, the couple has passed the most amazing American landscapes, which Katie documented in a series of intimate photographs. “A while back now, my boyfriend and I finished University forever, and there was only one place we wanted to run away and hide. We borrowed my sister’s car from Florida, and hit the road, headed for the American West. Living the dream,” she says. The two have hit 21 states and over 30 different parks, fulfilling their dream to live on the road and feel all the freedom it brings. “By the end of it all, all we knew is that a life on the road is something we needed to do long term,” adds Katie. The couple decided to make one more dream come true and go for a all year long trip around Europe. You can follow their trip on Katie’s Instagram account.

This 2016 built concrete pavilion can be booked as a holiday home. It is situated on the outskirts of Mexico City near the Tepoztlan mountain.

Exposed to the breathtaking views of the valley, the concave shaped small box hovers over a plain, opening to the views and interacting with the steep slope of the terrain below. It is a shelter among the trees to enjoy the views, the weather and the exuberant nature of the place. The Tepoztlan Lounge was built by Cadaval & Solà-Morales, a Mexico City based studio whose aim is to create intelligent design solutions at many different scales, from large projects to small buildings, from objects to city fractions.

Focusing on travel and adventure photography, Stockholm-based artist Tobias Hägg creates breathtaking aerial images to show the unexpected perspective of the well-known landscapes.

An official ambassador of the outdoor brand Fjällräven, Hägg’s care for detail can be seen in his carefully composed imagery. He says: “I strive for perfection in all my work even though i know perfection isn’t something i can achieve. I strive for a unique perspective of life and i am on a constant chase for improvement.” With the use of the drones, the photographer captures nature’s incredible wilderness and calmness at once. Often taken as the ‘classic landscapes’, such as the sea and the forest, the places seen in Hägg’s photographs gain a new dimension, allowing the viewer to see a surprising side of nature.

Using scraps leftover thread from her family’s carpet factory located in Buenos Aires, artist Alexandra Kehayoglou produces handmade wool rugs that mimic natural textures like moss, water, trees, and pastures.

Each carpet Kehayoglou creates is hand-tufted in her studio, made of materials retrieved from the factory El Espartano. The artist collects the materials and takes them as her prime medium, transforming an entire room into a lush meadow dotted with pools of water and tufts of grass. Some of her works even function as tapestry, flowing from walls to floor, or work as covers for chairs or stools. All themes of her art work are related to nature, realizing immersive textile expanses of grasslands, paddocks and shelters that function as carpets. Every work Kehayoglou manufactures is unique in texture and pattern with a selected range that is derived from her family’s textile traditions. Her landscapes of sublime realities are so magical, Dries Van Noten commissioned her to to create a forest-like runway for his Spring 2015 show.

As result of a design competition for six students at Eindhoven University of Technology in The Netherlands, the team built a sustainable hiker’s cabin with architect Kristel Hermans being a valuable member to the project.

The Trek-in cabin is convenient for 4-6 people to shower, eat, sleep, and enjoy a hiatus during their journey. Made completely out of reclaimed material, they hardly needed new materials for the project. “Designing moveable, flexible, sustainable architecture with a focus on space, sense of security and connection with nature,” are the passions that fueled this and future projects. MoodBuilders Architecture and Kristel Hermans are still working on developing more product development projects.

Advertising and art photographer Niels Schubert lives in Stuttgart in the south west of Germany. Besides his successful work as a commercial photographer, he always had an interest in the artistic discussion about space and territory.

His series titled ‘Genova – i tuoi colori’ shows the public space along the beaches of the Ligurian capital Genoa, its design and conversion and the use of it by its visitors. The artist started his project during a trip across Italy in 2014, when he had a stopover in Genoa. Fascinated by the beach life, he found many scenes for his art project. The pictures are characterized by the grey color of the chalk rock or the cast concrete which are spread across the coast of Genoa. Every image exhibits a different character, featuring abstract, constructive or impressionistic traits. Besides the tourists lying at the beach, Niels’ pictures stand out due to the colorful sunshades and towels. The atmosphere halts between sober documentation and melancholic consideration.

Recalling events from almost 70 years ago, the Syracuse-based photographer Allison Beondé’s work explores the way phenomena and fable help shape society’s cultural consciousness.

‘1947, Roswell’ is a reinvestigation of the famous UFO sightings of 1947 in Roswell, NM. Interested in the way that this fictionalized and historic moment has been passed down and shifted over time, the photographer started to think about the notion of truth and the role of photography in defining it. Using different techniques, Beondé reveals many ways a photograph can be read – purely as an image, as a piece of evidence, or a falsification. From paper negatives and archival photographs to digital images, the image both represents a physical evidence documented by the Roswell police station and FBI, and exist as its own document of place. “I’m not interested in recounting the story of James Ragsdale as a credible source, or as an exercise in documentary or historical photography, but simply as what it is — a story; one that is open ended, unresolved, strangely beautiful, and for the most part regarded as a lie,” says Beondé.
