Modernist Homes Illustrated By Ana Popescu

Inspired by the mid-century mansions and villas of Palm Springs, artist Ana Popesco creates her own fictional homes in a series of illustrated architectural studies.

Popescu’s interest in representing architectural form developed through her love of the Bauhaus movement, which reminds her of the buildings present in her home country of Romania. After discovering a likeness in the modernist houses of Palm Springs, Popesco began to explore their characteristic geometric shapes. ‘Homes’ presents a study of form and composition, and each picture is painted in pastel colours using her playful signature style. The artist explains, “At one point I mixed just about every color I could think of, but I wanted to create some texture. Since I like terrazzo a lot, I started placing little dots everywhere, and that’s when I became more obsessed with patterns.”
