Carvalho Araújo’s Gerês House Overlooks A Valley In Portugal

[ad_1]

The horizontally formed ‘Gerês House’, designed by architecture studio Carvalho Araújo, is a wooden and concrete structure with panoramic views of the surrounding Portuguese landscape.

The sleek residence is set against a slope in the Caniçada Valley in Northern Portugal. The property replaces the previous home that was demolished due to a landslide risk, and the lower, safer position of the new construction means that the house can be accessed from a higher vantage point, offering views over the flat roof to the scenery ahead. A winding stream trickles down from the top of the property, pooling its way into a swimming pool below the house that is surrounded by timber decking. Inside, the building is clad in board-marked concrete and exposed timber walls, giving the property the atmosphere of a decadent lodge. The interior is finished off by wooden furniture and grey textiles, and the living room extends to a terrace complete with an outdoor jacuzzi.
