Fredrikson Stallard’s Amorphous Sofas Are Inspired By The Solid Shapes Of Earth

Luxurious and striking in appearance, the sofas are a study in evolution, “created with a brute force that is at odds with ideas of comfort or human contact, yet so inviting by the nature of its materials”, explains the studio. The sofas are made of “created with a brute force that is at odds with ideas of comfort”polyurethane, glass fiber, and polyester, combining aspects of sculpture and furniture design. Elements of sculpted mass are finished in shades of red: “the colors of life and death”. ‘Species’ was created as part of an exhibition titled ‘Momentum’, held during the London Design Festival.
