Built using the same technique and material as the ancient limestone walls that populate the island, the neutrally-colored house sits comfortably within its seaside context. The wooden shutters, robust white walls and external accents in limestone—which was excavated from the site—all pay homage to Menorcan architecture, but Nomo Studio’s modern design help the space avoid “falling into pure replica”, the architects explain. Structured around a double-height social space and a 100-square-meter porch that opens the interior to spectacular views across the water, the ‘Stone House’ might show lessons in restraint, but not in size. Minimally furnished and finished with sand-colored concrete pavement, whitewashed wooden beams, and pine carpentry, the house is luxe in its modern Mediterranean simplicity.
