Photographer Jasmine Clarke Uncovers The Unseen Through Her Alluring Images

[ad_1]

“The nature of photography tells us that what we are seeing is true, but it’s not. It is a selective truth, or even a fiction,” she tells IGNANT. Inspired by mysticism and magic realism, Clarke’s work plays with the tension between fiction and reality to unravel the uncanniness of the world that surrounds us. “This is why I photograph: to capture a trace of the unexplainable,” she says. “My pictures are where dreams meet the physical world and earthly things take on higher meaning.” With a powerful aesthetic appeal, the photographer puts forth suggestive themes of identity, memory, family history, and migration, engaging with unresolved feelings while exuding the contrast of fragility and strength. A reflection of her inner world, her images share a surreal quality and an exquisite stillness which is aesthetically pleasing and inherently poetic. Beautifully lit and expertly framed, her photographs evoke deep emotional responses, reminding us of the full breadth of human experience. “I search for the uncanny. I uncover what is hidden. An obscured face, a wet flower, a dark shadow,” she says.
