The 2023 European Wildlife Photographer of the Year awards, hosted by the German Culture for Mother nature Photography (GDT), have introduced their winners, highlighting exceptional talent and determination to encapsulating the magnificence of mother nature.

Spanish photographer Javier Aznar González de Rueda stood out this calendar year with his powerful visual narrative. His award-winning photograph, ‘Maternal Care,’ presents an personal glimpse at character, depicting a mother stink bug caring for her offspring. Aznar González de Rueda’s pictures not only captures the moment’s splendor but also emphasizes the significance of organic background expertise, wildlife conservation advocacy, and the deep bond in between people and mother nature. His work sheds light on the animal kingdom’s fragile equilibrium and nurturing essence, reminding us of the wonders present in our all-natural surroundings.

In general Winner: Maternal Treatment by Javier Aznar González de Rueda

“In Ecuador’s largest safeguarded place, Yasuní National Park, I was ready to notice maternal care behaviour in the stink bug Antiteuchus tripterusover a two 7 days period of time. The woman bug guarded its clutch of eggs on a small department.

This behaviour has been reported for other legitimate bug species. To my shock, it turned out that the mother bug not only safeguarded the eggs but also the recently hatched larvae up to their initially moult. In Ecuador’s rainforest, the stink bug’s brood is susceptible to attack by several predators and parasitoids these as ichneumon wasps. Maternal treatment significantly will increase the offspring’s prospects of survival. The rainforest is ahighly complex ecosystem with many organisms in a large interconnected world-wide-web of existence.”
