Stoney Street · London, UK

Founder Alex Hely-Hutchinson started the first 26 Grains as a modest-sized cafe specializing in an extensive range of porridge, both sweet and savoury. After great success, the new ‘Stoney Street’ venue has opened, going beyond brunch meals to offer an all-day dining service that champions independent producers and local ingredients. “Our philosophy is that food should be sourced at the highest quality, cooked when in season, and paired simply with a few complimentary ingredients,” Hely-Hutchinson explains. Interior architecture was conceived of by design agency Block1, with highlights including dark wood walls, brushed concrete flooring, and marble table tops lit by candlelight at nighttime—guests can either dine overlooking the open-plan kitchen, or with views out towards Borough Market. The considered wine list includes mostly natural wines from Germany, Austria, and Chile. Dishes change regularly, however pictured below includes mussels in fragrant fish broth, soufflé herb omelette with goat’s cheese, and meringues with fig, cream, and poached quince—vibrant meals executed with flair, and suitable no matter which season you find yourself asking for a table.
