Over two decades ago, fashion photographer Glen Luchford hired Jack Webb to be his lighting assistant. Whenever the duo worked on set together, Webb would stand in front of the camera to ensure the lighting was ready for the models, with the resulting test images usually thrown away. “But for some reason, I hung onto them,” explains Luchford, who has now compiled the images into a monograph entitled ‘The Agony and the Ecstasy: Jack Webb by Glen Luchford’, published by IDEA. The book comprises 82 editorial images and their test shot counterparts of Webb, presenting a touching insight of the professional relationship and friendship of a photographer and his assistant. ‘The Agony and the Ecstasy’ celebrates Luchford and Webb’s longstanding collaboration and captures the ‘behind the scenes’ of a creative process from a rarely-seen perspective.
