A winter storm that blanketed the Midwest and Northeast of the US this past weekend has also transformed Niagara Falls into a winter wonderland. Subzero temperatures have created a unique experience for those visiting the area, as parts of Niagara Falls have completely frozen over. The surreal scene has been captured by visitors brave enough to venture out into the freezing temperatures, with some describing it as a scene from Disney’s Frozen.
On both sides of the border, people marveled at the wintery scene, as cold mist sprayed over icy surfaces and created a surreal environment. With another cold front set to move in this weekend, according to CNN meteorologist Michael Guy, there’s a good chance that this magical moment at the falls will continue.
This isn’t the first time that temperatures have dropped low enough to freeze a portion of the falls. Last January, Niagara Falls showed off its fetching winter landscape, complete with striking icicle formations. And in February 2018, photographer Adam Klekota was able to capture an even more surreal view of the frozen falls when he photographed them under colored lights.
Portions of Niagara Falls have frozen thanks to subzero temperatures brought on by a winter storm.
