Hyperrealistic artwork has a way of shining a gentle on the extraordinary splendor of every day objects. And that’s accurately what artist Yrjö Edelmann does in his depictions of packages wrapped in colourful paper. Each individual work celebrates the textured landscape of wrinkles and folds, often tied with a single string and other times saved jointly with a few pieces of tape.

Born in 1941 in Finland, Edelmann acquired his formal education and learning in art at the University School of Arts, Crafts, and Layout in Stockholm, Sweden. His masterful pictorial techniques led him into hyperrealistic paintings and dreamy trompe-l’oeil images. During this time, he created an interest in clumsily wrapped offers. It was not only in what they show the viewer—the sheen and shadows of the paper, the string, the tape—but also in what they conceal. Because there is hardly ever any indication of the contents of the deal (aside from the condition), it makes an ambiance of curiosity.

Edelmann produces the hyperrealistic effect of his paintings using standard oil portray strategies from the Renaissance. He thoroughly adds slender layers of paint to the canvas to improve the luminosity of the distinct colors. The constrained palette of these parts lets the variation of hues, from the lightest shade to the darkest, guide the viewer’s eyes throughout the undulating floor of the paper.
