Industrial lobster diver Michael Packard was almost swallowed by a humpback whale while browsing for lobsters off the coastline of Massachusetts. Whilst that appears like a thing out of a storybook, it is not—and the lucky diver is alive to explain to the astounding tale.
Packard realized a little something was erroneous the moment the incident transpired, but he was not sure what was taking place to him, particularly. “I acquired down to about 45 feet of drinking water, and all of a unexpected I just felt this substantial bump, and every little thing went darkish,” Packard discussed. “And I could sense that I was transferring, and I was like, ‘”Oh, my God, did I just get bit by a shark?’ Then I felt all around, and I recognized there was no teeth and I experienced felt, actually, no wonderful suffering,” Packard recollects. “And then I understood, ‘Oh, my God, I am in a whale’s mouth. I am in a whale’s mouth, and he’s attempting to swallow me.’”

Specified he was about to die, Packard estimates that he was in the whale’s mouth for 30 or 40 seconds, in a fully dark place whole of drinking water. Packard could’ve conveniently drowned or suffocated, but he had his respiration apparatus with him. Luckily, the whale surfaced following significantly less than a minute and spit him out. (Whale industry experts have also reported that given the creature’s smaller esophagus, Packard would not have been able to suit in its throat.)
The moment ejected from the mouth, Packard was introduced into the air and landed in the water. He was bruised but did not have any broken bones. Soon after becoming taken care of at the hospital, he was recovering at house the very same day it occurred.
So, does Packard plan on finding again into the water? Of program! In a Reddit AMA about the incident, his son wrote, “I have no doubt in my intellect he will do every thing he can to keep diving, it can be his everyday living and passion.”
