Met Gala Challenge has People Recreating Iconic Looks From Past Years

Typically, the annual Met Gala is “fashion’s biggest night out” with celebrities rocking ensembles that we’ll be talking about for years to come. Unfortunately, we’ll have to wait until 2021 to see those show-stopping looks again, but that doesn’t mean we still can’t celebrate the event—from home, of course. To do this, Billy Porter and Vogue magazine have announced a project, similar to the famous Getty Museum Challenge, that encourages you to dress up as past Met Gala attendees, using items found in your home.

Since announcing the Met Gala Challenge on April 22, people from around the world have shared their fiercest looks on social media using the hashtag #MetGalaChallenge. It’s become popular with everyone, from everyday folks to celebrities alike. Actor Mindy Kaling had one of the best recreations so far. Using a tarp, Christmas lights, packing tape, and a mannequin head, she transformed herself into a spitting image of Jared Leto’s iconic look from the 2019 Met Gala whose theme was “Camp.”
