Monarch Butterfly Populations Are Recovering in Mexico

Monarch butterflies are popular for their hanging orange and black wings. These stunning, stylish bugs are also renowned for their amazing migratory routine. Wintering in Mexico, they journey as much north as Southern Canada in the spring. However, as with quite a few other species, the delicate natural rhythms of their migration are threatened by global warming and habitat loss. Fortunately, during the winter season of 2021 to 2022, 35% additional butterflies congregated in their winter season residence than in the past year—suggesting a feasible path of resilience for the species.
