New York Pizzeria Promotes Dogs for Adoption on Pizza Boxes

[ad_1]

From funny calendars to custom beer cans, many organizations have come up with creative ways to encourage people to adopt dogs from animal shelters. One of the latest canine campaigns was run by Just Pizza & Wing Co. in Amherst, New York, who partnered with the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) in Niagara. They decided to attach flyers onto each pizza box, showcasing the profiles of adoptable dogs.

Mary Alloy (owner of the Just Pizza & Wing Co. pizza franchise) volunteers with SPCA, and wanted to find a unique way to help the shelter dogs find forever homes. While brainstorming with SPCA’s event coordinator, Kimberly LaRussa, they came up with the idea of attaching flyers to each order. “Kimberly texted me one night and was like, ‘Hey, what would you think about putting pictures of the dogs on pizza boxes?’ and I just couldn’t wait,” Alloy reveals. “We are all animal lovers here, so I got permission from the franchise to do it and immediately got to work.”

From Friday (February 28) until Sunday (March 1), customers were treated to an extra slice of cuteness with each order. The public’s reaction was extremely positive, and after the first day of putting the flyers on pizza boxes, a 6-month-old puppy named Larry was adopted! Those who adopted a dog were also given a $50 gift certificate to Just Pizza in Amherst.

Not only has the campaign helped SPCA dogs find new homes, but the family-run pizzeria has also benefited from the flock of new, animal-loving customers. Although the dog flyer campaign has ended, LaRussa and Alloy don’t plan to stop there—Just Pizza & Wing Co. customers can soon expect to see their orders come with flyers of adoptable cats!
