The beloved television sitcom The Golden Girls aired over three decades ago, but the antics of Sophia, Rose, Blanche, and Dorothy continue to delight us today. Fans of the show now have another way to celebrate these funny women and their enduring friendship thanks to a collaboration between PEZ and Funko. Using Funko’s signature dotted eyes and stylized features, the portraits of the Golden Girls are each placed on the body of the iconic PEZ candy dispenser.
The PEZ dispenser has a long history in pop culture. It’s considered an honor for a character or person to be immortalized on the top of one. While we’re used to seeing PEZ with a familiar face, the tiny container was first introduced sans characters in the United States in the early 1950s. But after the company had trouble marketing the candy, they decided to transform the dispensers into cute characters like Santa Claus. This quickly became a big hit and they still remain popular today. In fact, the original PEZ dispensers are highly collectible and can be sold for thousands of dollars.
The Funko aesthetic adds a contemporary touch to the retro PEZ and makes it fun for people of all ages to admire the ladies of The Golden Girls. The women’s playful portraits are set atop a five-and-a-half-inch-tall body and come with with a sleeve of PEZ candy. They are all available on Amazon and are the perfect way to say “thank you for being a friend.”
Fans of The Golden Girls, rejoice! Funko has collaborated with PEZ to create candy dispensers modeled after the four funny women.
Each dispenser is a stylized portrait and comes with a sleeve of PEZ candy. There’s Dorothy…
…and, of course, Sophia!
