Have you ever gotten rid of a beat-up pair of leather shoes? The next time you think your boots are beyond repair, consider taking them to a cobbler. As this video from Potter & Sons shows, these shoe artisans can work magic and bring seemingly too-far-gone footwear back to life. Over the course of 26 minutes, Heath Potter restores a pair of Ferragamo loafers from being totally worn out to looking brand new.

Potter has his work cut out for him and in the video, points out just how badly the shoes were in disrepair. The owner had worn through the outsole, insole, and the sock liner of the loafers. “His foot was pretty much just resting on the pavement,” Potter says. The upper part of the shoe was also very faded. “It’s not even brown anymore. It’s almost like a creamy color.”

Determined to put “some love back into the shoes,” Potter starts the restoration and narrates the entire process along the way. He’s like a shoe surgeon and effortlessly removes the heal to get down to the base of the loafer. From there, he rebuilds the shoe starting with a new insole and then goes step-by-step to make the footwear wearable again. As a viewer, it’s easy to be mesmerized by the process and to marvel at someone who is a master of their profession.

Considering the damage of these shoes, it is incredible that Potter was able to restore them to brand new. It should be noted, however, that this repair was done as a favor. If you were to take shoes like that to a cobbler, chances are they would turn them away as being beyond what they will repair.

In this mesmerizing video, Heath Potter of Potter & Sons restores a pair of Ferragamo loafers from being totally worn out to looking brand new.

Their YouTube channel is full of these types of repairs.

They also share how to protect your Louboutin Heels so that you’ll always have those red bottoms.

While Potter & Sons are very informative—describing the process as they work—Brian the Bootmaker also makes before-and-after shoe repair videos.

His style is to show and not tell, but his repairs are set to soothing music.
