“A Container For Views”: Simplicity Is King In The Aculco House In Mexico

The pair discovered the plot of land outside the town of Aculco whilst on a serendipitous rock climbing trip. After spending several years reforesting the site, they decided to enlist Mexico City-based architecture firm PPAA to build a low impact home on their land. In 2017, construction concluded on the 90-square-meter building; PPAA having successfully designed a small but spacious home that utilizes local materials in an unpretentious way. Describing it as “a container for views”, the house is a simple affair that makes the most of its topographical orientation and isolation. Divided into four primary spaces; a living and kitchen area, a bathroom, and two double bedrooms, the home opens onto the surrounding landscape through large sliding doors. A storage shed crafted in the likeness of the main building and an external patio complete the ‘Aculco House’; a place where serenity seems almost guaranteed.
