Arnout Meijer’s Designs Explore Sensory Perception Through LED Lights

Inside the lamps, light is refracted by the acrylic shades, moving in different patterns in relation to the viewer’s eyes. “Where a traditional hologram reproduces a physical object as it’s virtual duplicate,” Meijer explains, “this hybrid exists between the actual and the virtual, and the light itself becomes an intangible shape.” When one moves across the room, the shape of the lamps distort, an effect that causes them to appear virtual, and not in fact real. “The LED points function not only as a source of light, but at the same time as a sculptural medium to depict intangible objects through the optical surface,” explains Meijer.
