Artist Neville Gabie admits that photographing goalposts is an obsession. “I wander the streets in an mysterious city with a one emphasis: the place do persons play?”

The fixation commenced in the 1990s when Gabie was centered in South Africa. Strolling close to, he was astonished by how quite a few improvised goalposts he saw. “These basic frames, in the glare of the solar, spoke of neighborhood and resilience in the facial area of hardship.”

Since then, he has taken a lot more than 1,000 pics of goalposts in international locations from Antarctica to Morocco.

“There is a language in the marking of a goalpost that connects specifically to its locale,” he suggests. “A mirror into the economics and politics of a scenario, which is as powerful as any.”
