Under the direction of Balenciaga’s creative director Demna Gvasalia, Gonzalez Haase AAS has balanced architecture, lighting, and furniture with a monochromatic color scheme to sharpen Balenciaga’s spatial aesthetic. The result is an exclusive, functional space that boldly contrasts the popular Berlin ‘factory-warehouse’ style, to the color spectrum of the designer clothing on display. The avant-garde retail design, headed by architect Judith Haase and scenographer Pierre Jorge Gonzalez, (whom we’ve interviewed previously on iGNANT), includes counters and clothing racks made of stainless steel, reflective aluminum foil ceilings, and brightly lit lighting solutions. The cutting-edge, minimalist space allows the couture-standard atelier that Balenciaga is known for, to stand out as it should.
