Barwon Heads House, A Cottage Turned Minimalist Beach Home By Adam Kane Architects

[ad_1]

The brief from the client was to create a home that embodied the relaxed, coastal lifestyle of Barwon Heads, and the renovation needed to allow for entertaining and to maintain a strong connection between inside and outside, and old and new. The home’s interior balances itself through the careful use of textural tones and contrasting materials. Architectural highlights include charcoal floorboards, oakwood-lined ceilings, slabs of silver travertine on the walls, and a large travertine island bench; a statement piece that doubles as a refined dining table. The mezzanine bedroom overlooks the living space below, with a modern bathroom finished in the same textured marble that appears in other parts of the home, like the kitchen splashback. Other furnishings like sheer linen curtains, a plush gray sofa, and minimalist black dining chairs, softly balance the space, creating comfort and a sense of homeliness.
