Simon Davidson is one of Australia’s leading photographers, capturing a wide variety of subjects, both in advertising and editorial environments internationally. While his work continues to be recognised across a wide spectrum of genres, he now arouses interest in documenting various aspects of car culture from drag racing to V8.
For his Burnout series, Simon captures cars consumed by colorful plumes of smoke surrounded by passionate fans. He finds expression in a car spinning its rear wheels, creating a thick veil of vapor in saturated shades of pink, purple, orange and blue. All images are composed contemplations of the cars, drivers and the movement balanced in an ideal expression of a sublime modernity. Burnouts are loud, acrid and the air is thick of smoke and tyre dust. With his series, Davidson seeks to capture the otherwise overlooked beauty where it’s not immediately obvious.
