C-51 House By Ábaton Arquitectura

Located in the Spanish municipality of Torrelodones, C-51 House is a residential property designed by Madrid-based studio Ábaton Arquitectura.

Ábaton Arquitectura maintain the value of environmental sustainability in the creation of their buildings. When constructing the C-51 House, the studio were keen to utilise recyclable and low-impact materials, aware of the potential effect of the construction on the oak tree forest location. The site also set boundaries for the landscaping of the house, which has been created as a two storey building, but the outside environment is invited inside through the integration of large windows and viewing terraces on the second floor. Perhaps the most striking feature of the house is a seemingly floating concrete staircase, connecting the open plan living area downstairs to the upper level of the house. This free-standing, sculptural structure punctuates the white-painted space, providing a refreshing view of raw material.
