Casa Cipolla, A Home On Chile’s Pacific Coast

On the outskirts of a Chilean fishing village famed for its beaches, Felipe Assadi Arquitectos has designed ‘Casa Cipolla’, a simple concrete home that makes the most of its views over the Pacific.

Located 200 kilometers south of Santiago, Pichidangui is a popular holiday destination for locals and visitors alike—its various coves and beaches suitable for surfing, diving, windsurfing, and kayaking. Beyond the often-busy beach and port that sit at the heart of the village, rock replaces white sand. Here, overlooking the jagged coastline and the vast blue of the Pacific Ocean stands ‘Casa Cipolla’. Built from exposed, reinforced concrete that is 20cm thick at all points throughout the house, the building is defined by its singular materiality. Featuring three bedrooms, and two bathrooms, the home is centered around a large open plan living area with full height windows on both sides. Upstairs, the roof becomes a viewing platform. Accessible via a freestanding concrete staircase, it offers spectacular views of the ocean beyond.
