Global Airport Prayer Spaces Captured By Leah Gordon

Multimedia artist and avid traveller Leah Gordon documents prayer spaces of airports around the world, using a Leica point-and-shoot.

Regarding this choice of photographic format, Gordon explains, “I normally use only film with medium-to-large format cameras, but I bought a small compact digital Leica for this project as I knew it would be impossible to apply for, and receive, permission to shoot in airports.” The series has developed as an ongoing project over six years, with Gordon capturing religious rooms that, for many, are situated off the airport’s beaten track. Her images provide an intriguing insight to a variety of decorative and architectural choices, made to establish an appropriate environment for prayer in transit.
