Le Cabanon, A Secluded Vacation Home

Framed views of overhead skies and the local dazzling beaches make this family holiday home designed by Tuscan-based firm Rick Joy Architects, a thing of Providenciales beauty.

“From the corridors, the concrete walls create shallow view-angles that reveal glimpses of each subsequent space and simultaneously frame the sky above,” say the team at Rick Joy Architects. ‘Le Cabanon’, which is also the name of the noted architect Le Corbusier’s own vacation home, has been designed to frame the surrounding verdant countryside and the ocean which lies on its doorstep. The open air passages also act as ventilation passages and allow fresh air to condition the building.

The architects ensured that privacy was kept by having only a few small windows in the front portion of the house. This half of the house is where the bedrooms and bathroom can be found, while the rear opens out into a pavilion. Here, an open-plan kitchen, living room and dining area are topped by a triangular roof wrapped in wooden shingles. Glass walls within the pavilion block can be removed to help minimize the division between outside and inside. The space looks onto a sheltered patio, terrace and small swimming pool.
