The dull days of winter have been halted within the basement of a north London home. Designed by architectural practice RUSSIAN FOR FISH, the interior refurbishment boasts a sunburst of yellow which dominates the entirety of the kitchen and continues up the stairwell.
In response to the client’s desire to inhabit a more welcoming basement level that mirrored their desire for contemporary, gallery style restraint, London design firm, RUSSIAN FOR FISH drew inspiration from industrial and commercial spaces. Their design process involved using a light-toned polished concrete for both flooring and the basement walls to contrast against the artificial yellow which consumes the kitchen. The distinctive color choice succeeds in diminishing grey days through the mimicking of a sense of warmth throughout the property.
