Jettisoned to fame by a single dress in 2015, the fashion studio is known for its contemporary lacework, and for offering high-end pieces at an affordable price point. The first stand-alone location for Self-Portrait draws from the label’s interest in tactility and material and sets the design concept for further locations as they open. Spread across two floors – ground and lower, the walls and ceilings of the store have been rendered in Cornish mineral clay, the texture, and color of which is offset by white metal fittings and the terrazzo flooring with pink and white marble insets. Geometric forms repeat throughout the space: there are circular mirrors and metal screens, a triangular floor plan, and staircases that loop from one floor to another. The aesthetic of the space has been completed with furniture pieces that Casper Mueller Kneer designed in collaboration with Danish artist Michael Elmgreen.
