Artist Daniele Barresi is an award-winning design carver. Rather than chipping away at expected materials like wood or marble, he lends his talents to something much tastier. Using food as an unconventional canvas, he creates awe-inspiring sculptures out of fruits, vegetables, and cheese. Despite their different textures and densities, Barresi carves each one of them seemingly with ease to reveal beautiful flowers and creatures hiding behind the skin and rinds.
Barresi speaks of his food art carving in an almost spiritual way. “When I touch my knife, my mind gives up to the heart and transmits directly to the hands, giving different forms to the decorations. It’s like magic.” This passion is evident when you look at his pieces; the details that he’s able to achieve with tools—including knives, scalpels, peelers, and melon ballers—makes them look too good to eat. Forget a plate; Barresi’s food carving deserves to be in an art gallery.
