Have you ever wished you had a big cuddly companion like Studio Ghibli’s Totoro? Or perhaps a fierce protector like Moro, the god of the wolves in Princess Mononoke? Well, though you can live out your dreams in real life, you can feed your fantasy with Japanese artist Monokubo’s imaginative art. The whimsical, animated characters from the Studio Ghibli films are the inspiration behind her giant animal illustrations. Through her fantastical digital paintings, she imagines a world where gentle giants peacefully coexist with humans.

From huge domestic cats to a jumbo-sized family of Shiba Inu, Monokubo illustrates the big friendly giants we all wish we had as pets. Each artwork depicts how the large animals interact with their human companions in the sweetest ways, from acting as the ultimate big fluffy pillows (perfect for taking a nap on) to simply accompanying them on adventures through Monokubo’s painterly natural landscapes.

Though Monokubo depicts a range of animals in her drawings, the domestic cat is her favorite subject. “In most cases, I choose the animals that have left an impression in my daily life,” she tells My Modern Met. “I have a cat and he is very cute.”

If you love Monokubo’s artwork you can buy a book featuring the best from her portfolio, now available on Amazon.
