Artist Turns Scrap Metal Into Striking Animal Sculptures

Many of us have a junk drawer at home, comprehensive of outdated keys, cutlery, tools, and basic safety pins. Wilson started crafting hen sculptures back in 2017, but his portfolio has now expanded to incorporate creatures of all kinds. From a cat to a squirrel, each individual elaborate piece captures the varieties of its serious-life counterpart in metallic. Wilson even made a praying mantis that seems like a futuristic robotic insect. It attributes a head, thorax, stomach, and wings designed from silverware, as effectively as 6 spindly legs made from upcycled metal utensils. “It’s a piece I have poured a lot of time and detail into,” Wilson reveal to My Modern-day Achieved. “I focused a full month to this bug and am genuinely proud of the way it arrived jointly.”

Wilson’s metal mammals and bugs are critically remarkable, but the artist’s hen sculptures are his specialty. He’s equipped to capture the character of all varieties of feathered friends in steel, like woodpeckers, blue jays, and owls. Wilson cleverly welds jointly spoon heads and fork prongs to build plumage, and generally uses curled metal wire for the bird’s talons. The gifted artist is extremely prolific, as well.
