With the threat of COVID-19 compelling many from around the world to stay at home, artists are sharing coloring pages to keep people creative as they practice safe social distancing. These free-to-download files feature beautiful illustrations of whimsical characters, fantasy worlds, and intricate patterns, making them an ideal stress-relieving activity.
Award-winning artist
Jen Bartel—whose clients include Marvel and Disney—has released a
Sailor Moon-inspired coloring book entitled
In the Name of the Moon. Available through
Gumroad, Bartel’s work includes six stunning drawings of the anime’s characters— including Sailor Moon, Chibi Moon, and the Inner Senshi—that fans can color in at their leisure. Artist
Mischi has also created a series of fantasy coloring books featuring strong heroines and antagonists called
Contested Canvas. This original project is funded through the artist’s
Patreon, and encourages an “interactive experience where the audience gets to choose the destiny of the characters they bring to life with color.”
The online marketplace
Society6—where thousands of artists showcase and sell their work—is collaborating with several of its illustrators to release a weekly coloring book that’s free to
download. By participating, recipients can keep busy with access to new and inspiring drawings every seven days. Additionally, startups like the Milan-based
Artupia are using exclusive coloring books as a way to help raise money for medical facilities within Italy. Their downloadable e-book features a collection of 11 illustrations by different Italian artists for €3 (about $3.20), and all proceeds go to the
IRCCS Foundation Ca’ Granda Ospedale Maggiore Policlinico.
