From the Fantastic Four to Spider-Man, the characters and stories of Marvel Comics continue to ignite the imaginations of many, despite being created almost 50 years ago. Many of the superhero movies of today wouldn’t be possible without Marvel Comics’ creative leader Stan Lee, who left us at the age of 95. Since his passing on November 12, 2018, fans around the world have been sharing heartfelt tributes to the legend, including Scottish graffiti artist EJEK who painted a colorful mural in his memory.
The 3m x 5m (11′ x 16′) mural is painted on the side of the Barn community center in Glasgow, a wall where EJEK has been spraying his artwork for over a decade. A fan of Marvel Comics since childhood, EJEK spent over two weeks creating his spray-painted memorial. He reveals, “I’ve been reading Marvel comics for over 30 years and I used to run a comic book store, so I thought it would be nice to do a tribute for him.”
The impressive mural features a large monochrome portrait of Stan Lee, surrounded by his iconic superhero characters in color. On the left hand side, a team of X-Men are depicted, while on the right, characters from The Avengers and more can be seen. The thoughtful piece showcases Lee’s unforgettable contribution to the golden age of comics and beyond.
