Designer Pairs Small Colorful Objects with Their Matching Pantone Swatches

We’ve been captivated by Inka Mathew‘s colorful couplings of teeny-tiny objects and Pantone swatches for years. Now, the artist continues her “visual journey” with exciting new editions to her Tiny PMS Match photo series.

The small studies that compose Tiny PMS Match act both as an exploration of tonality and as a celebration of everyday (and often overlooked) objects. Each photograph features a Pantone Matching System sample paired with an identically-colored item. These tiny, tangible articles range from quirky trinkets, like a mushroom eraser, a Lego pineapple, and a “vintage rooster Crackerjack toy prize,” to organic objects, including radiant flowers, uniquely-patterned beans, and a rainbow of spices.

So how does Mathew decide which items to feature in Tiny PMS Match? Given the quality of her matches and the broad scope of her studies, you may be surprised to learn that she does not have a strict selection process. Instead, the designer prefers to simply stumble upon possible subjects. When and if she finds an item she’d like to feature in Tiny PMS Match, she finds its color match in her handy dandy Pantone book. Talk about a serendipitous series!

If, like us, you’ve been following Mathew’s polychromatic project on Instagram and Tumblr, be sure to check out her book, Tiny PANTONE Objects.
