Dystopian ‘Black Mirror’ Ad Says Season 6 Is Happening Now, in Real Life

[ad_1]

From the Australian bushfires to the coronavirus outbreak, the many disastrous events of 2020 has left the world in disarray. Those with a dark sense of humor might agree that the last few months have been eerily similar to the twisted events of Charlie Brooker’s Black Mirror. Inspired by this very idea, Madrid-based creative ad agency Brother designed a clever mock ad campaign that seems to be announcing the latest season of the dystopian anthology series, but there’s one catch. It claims that season 6 is happening right now, in reality.

The outdoor campaign shows Madrid’s bus stops fitted with a mirrored surface that reads: “Black Mirror 6th Season. Live Now, everywhere.” Passersby wearing masks, face shields, and gloves are reflected in the mirror surface, adding an extra surreal, interactive layer to the ad.

Despite the clever campaign, Brooker claims that season 6 of his dystopian TV show is currently on hold. While talking to Radio Times, he explained that the dark, futuristic world he usually depicts doesn’t feel like the right message for the public right now. “At the moment, I don’t know what stomach there would be for stories about societies falling apart, so I’m not working away on one of those,” he reveals. “I’m sort of keen to revisit my comic skill set, so I’ve been writing scripts aimed at making myself laugh.”
