Expectant Moms Are Turning Their Ultrasounds Into Sonogram Nails

With today’s technologies, expectant mothers and fathers can see their unborn children with increasing ease. Ultrasounds let excited parents-to-be catch a glimpse of their little ones, whose prenatal portraits are given to them as souvenirs. While these pictures usually end up framed, filed, or stored away, some of them are used as artistic inspiration, with sonogram nail art serving as the newest trend.

Also known as ultrasound nails, sonogram nails offer moms a one-of-a-kind way to show their unborn babies to the world. In order to replicate the look of a sonogram, these designs are rendered in delicate swirls of black-and-white. Usually, the client opts to include only a silhouette of the fetus’ head and hands, and often only adorn one finger with a figurative image.

Much like the images they represent, the decorations are not necessarily clear at first glance; in fact, they could easily double as marbled, abstract art. This makes them both an interesting conversation starter and a special way for expectant moms to bond with their babies.

Whether or not you’d have your own nails painted this way, you’ve got to hand it to these creative moms-to-be!
