Isolation Art Challenge Has People Recreating Paintings in Their Homes

Coronavirus Art Challenge

On the surface, the coronavirus quarantine seems like it’d be a hindrance to creativity. But as we’ve seen, there are plenty of ways to take in some culture and exercise your artistic side, even when you’re stuck at home. An art project known as the “Getty Museum Challenge” has folks recreating famous artwork with things they have on hand. The idea has global appeal and has caught on in various circles of the internet. The Izoizolyacia group is a great example of this; it’s a widely popular Russian Facebook group with users who are dedicated to making and sharing these types of recreations of iconic artists.

Like others who have completed the Getty Museum Challenge, it’s impressive to see what people have made with the random things in their homes. Many of the posts showcase paintings that are elaborate in their costumes, compositional setups, or both. Some of the most striking recreations, however, are of abstract paintings. One example is Henri Matisse’s work entitled Blue Nude. The inking features a faceless figure with their body contorted in a yoga-esque pose. When it was attempted for the challenge, blue tights and a turtleneck cloaked a body from head to toe, effectively capturing the essence of Matisse’s work.
