LEGO Batmobile Celebrates the 30th Anniversary of the 1989 Batman Film

It’s been 30 years since the release of Tim Burton’s 1989 Batman, starring Michael Keaton as the titular character (aka Bruce Wayne). While the superhero’s iconic Batmobile has evolved over time, the 1989 version is perhaps the most recognizable iteration of the sleek, bat-winged vehicle. In celebration of one of the most iconic vehicles in cinema, LEGO is soon to release an epic Batmobile model toy kit.

Measuring over 60 cm (23 inches) long and built from 3,306 pieces, the LEGO set replicates the famous Batmobile in incredible detail. It features a slide-open cockpit, 2 hidden machine guns that pop up when the car’s turbine exhaust is turned, decorative grappling hooks on each side of the vehicle, and wheel trims with the Bat logo. The set also comes with three minifigures: Batman, the Joker, and Vicki Vale. Once built, proud builders can display the finished piece on a rotating stand.

When creating the Batmobile for the 1989 film, production designer Anton Furst explains, “We looked at jet aircraft components, we looked at war machines, we looked at all sorts of things. In the end, we went into pure expressionism, taking the Salt Flat Racers of the 30s and the Sting Ray macho machines of the 50s.” The LEGO replica captures the style and fierceness of the original car, making it a perfect gift for Batman fans.

The LEGO 1989 Batmobile will be available to purchase from the LEGO website on November 29, 2019, for $249.99.
