The idea of living in a cave might not sound too appealing at first, but Beckham Creek Cave Lodge is a world away from the cold and dingy dwellings of our ancestors. The so-called “world’s most luxurious cave” is located in a private 260-acre resort in the remote area of Arkansas, nestled within a natural cavern. Overlooking the valley and surrounded by mountains, rivers, and hot springs, it’s the ideal accommodation for those who seek adventure in style.

The 6,000-square-foot structure was originally acquired by Celestial Tea co-founder John Hay who transformed it into a bomb shelter during the Cold War (just in case things turned “hot”). He spent four years and $2 million converting the subterranean chamber into the perfect hideaway, complete with all the comforts of a modern home. After the war, Hay sold the “cave” to the current owner who renovated the space into a luxury hotel in 2014.

Home to four luxury bedrooms and four lavish bathrooms, The Beckham Creek Cave Lodge costs $1,200 a night and can accommodate up to 8 guests. The modern interior compliments the natural elements of the cave, which is full of stalagmites, stalactites, and other rock formations. It even has its own helipad outside for those who want to live out their inner James Bond villain fantasies.

If you’re wondering about amenities, the cave’s manager and current broker Rayne Davidson explains, “The water for the cave comes from the 1.5 mile interior of the cave and flows into a holding tank which goes through a purification system,” he says. “What is not used and is overflow, travels under the floor of the lodge and comes out into another holding pool beside the front door, then overflows down the mountain (in the times of heavy rain – it’s a waterfall of sorts) to then be held in the large pond down in the pasture beside the helipad.”

The spectacular cave home is now up for sale once more for $2.75 million. Would you live in a luxury cave? Scroll down to check out the incredible interior.
