Morgan Freeman Turns His Ranch into a Honey Bee Sanctuary

As an actor, film director, and philanthropist, Morgan Freeman is quite the busy bee. Now, it seems the multifaceted man can add “beekeeper” to his impressive list of vocations. The star first mentioned his beekeeping passion project back in 2014 on an episode of The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, during which he stressed the importance of preserving wild bees to maintain a balanced environment. Now, it seems Freeman’s hobby has blossomed into something much more.

Morgan Freeman imported 26 beehives from Arkansas to his 124-acre ranch in Mississippi to convert the property into a full-time bee sanctuary. Freeman encourages bee population growth by planting bee-friendly vegetation like magnolia trees, lavender, and clover on the land. He has no intention of harvesting the honey or disrupting the hives, but he does visit with sugar water to keep the bees healthy.

Inspired by Morgan Freeman’s efforts? Even if you don’t have the resources to start a sanctuary, it’s easy to leave out a bowl of sugar water on your balcony or garden. The bees and environment will thank you!
