Pretty Nature-Inspired Embroidery Bead Designs Shimmer in the Light

Bead Embroidery by Huberink

Canadian artist Janelle (aka HuberInk) creates beautiful bead embroidery designs inspired by nature. From the sun and clouds to insects and foliage, she finds inspiration all around her, translating elements of the natural environment into decorative textile art. She tells My Modern Met, “Many times, I’ll see a flower, plant, or even moths and get inspired to try to recreate it with embroidery.”

From glittering crescent moons to pretty textile moths, Janelle’s three-dimensional designs are entirely stitched by hand. The talented artist finds most of her fabric at local thrift stores, where she’ll use pretty much anything, provided it’s not too stretchy. “I recently found some raw canvas at one of the thrift stores,” Janelle recalls, “and that gave me the idea to try to paint backgrounds for some of my embroideries and beadings.” These particular pieces feature delicate washes of midnight-blue, inky hues, providing the perfect backdrop for the artist’s shimmering bead designs.

As each bead is added one-by-one, Janelle’s embroidery designs can often take several months to complete, depending on the size. The results are totally worth it though—check out some of her work below.
