Street Artist’s Fist of Flowers Mural Art Celebrates the Power of Peace

Inspired by the symbol of strength and solidarity, Italian street artist ERON created a raised, clenched fist mural that celebrates the power of non-violence. The epic, large-scale piece, cleverly titled Tower to the People, features a fist constructed from a mass of lush, white roses—a flower that typically represents unity, virtue, and the pureness of love. It was spray painted onto an urban electricity brick tower and created especially for the 2018 Cantiere Poetico cultural festival in Santarcangelo di Romagna, Italy.

Painted in the classical chiaroscuro technique, ERON uses light and shadow to create the illusion of three-dimensional depth. The powerful yet delicate fist of flowers appears as though it’s growing out from the wall towards the viewer, altogether strengthening the message of love and peace. The artist’s statement explains that Tower to the People expresses “the strength of gentleness, the power of non-violence, the victory of kindness, the triumph of love over hate, the intensity of poetry, the perfection of harmony, and the desire for freedom and peace among the people all over the world.”

In another work, titled Le Monument, ERON transforms a 5-floor building in the Bernard de Jussieu neighborhood in Versailles, France. The mural features multiple hands reaching out to grab flying doves, representing both the human desire for peace and our tendency to ruin our chances by using force.
