Sometimes, hearing the truth is hard. But when it comes from a friendly-faced potato? It’s a little easier to swallow. An Instagram account called Truth Potato is on a mission to reveal the facts of life to us, no matter how unpleasant the realities may be. The popular profile, created by designer Harsh Gopal, views it as a public service announcement. His messages are small bits of tough love intended to break “the cloud of denial” that can fog our lives and hamper our ability to move forward.

The Truth Potato is drawn in a charming cartoon style. At first glance, the anthropomorphized vegetable has an unassuming appearance with big eyes, a tiny mouth, and adorably short arms. But paired with each digital portrait is some #potatolove wisdom imploring us to engage in some serious self-reflection. Many of the posts remind us that apologizing for something isn’t the end of the world and that no matter how hard we try, we will eventually screw up.
