From over 105,000 entries, ten photographs were selected as winners of the Sony World Photography Awards Open competition. The 2017 winners were judged to have the best single photograph across 10 different categories. The prestigious contest, run by the World Photography Organisation, raises the bar each year with its stunning entries.

The photographers, who hail from 9 different countries, will now battle it out to see who will claim the ultimate prize as the Open Photographer of the Year. From travel to architecture, still life to street photography, each shot encompasses the best of the photographic world.

“It has been a pleasure and an inspiration to be exposed to such a volume of great work, and a privilege too that I could share in the personal moments, the joys, tears, life and losses of photographers from all around the globe who recorded their experiences through their pictures,” shares Open competition chair, photographer Damien Demolder.

Winners include a powerful portrait of a young girl who seems wise beyond her years and a mind-bending shot of 1,300 people practicing Tai-Chi in China. Whether shot in impactful black and white or vibrant color, each winning photograph has a distinct point of view and tells a story.

Want to see the winning images in person? If you are in London from April 21 to May 7, 2017, you’ll want to visit The Sony World Photography Awards & Martin Parr – 2017 Exhibition at Somerset House. The exhibition will show off the best from the world’s largest photo contest, including all winning and shortlisted entries across the professional, open, student, and youth competitions.

The winners of the 2017 Sony World Photography Awards Open Competition will now compete for the title of Open Photographer of the Year.
