Young Activists Greta Thunberg and Malala Yousafzai Finally Meet

Environmental activist Greta Thunberg and social activist Malala Yousafzai met for the first time this week (February 25, 2020), creating an incredible moment in history. The powerful young women got together at Oxford University—where 22-year-old Yousafzai is currently studying. 17-year-old Thunberg was there to speak with students about climate change, science, and voting, but the young activists took a brief pause to meet, chat, and snap a few pictures together.

Thunberg posted images of the iconic moment on Instagram with the caption, “So… today I met my role model. What else can I say?” Meanwhile, Yousafzai later posted an image of the pair on Twitter saying, “She’s the only friend I’d skip school for.”

Nobel Peace Prize-winner Yousafzai was just 15 years old when she was shot by a Taliban gunman for fighting to allow girls go to school. Today, she continues to champion women’s education. She set up the Malala Fund, where you can donate to her important cause. Thunberg is a Swedish environmental activist on climate change whose dedicated campaigning has led her to become one of the most influential people of our time. Seeing the two iconic young women come together inspires hope for generations to come. The world needs more people like them!
