Hugo Suissas is a self-taught Lisbon-based photographer who proves that you can make any photo much more interesting by trying out a different perspective. The photographer regularly incorporates all sorts of props – from markers to cans of deodorant – in his photos, and the results are guaranteed to mess with your eyes!

In a recent interview with Bored Panda, Hugo said that he got into photography 9 years ago, and that it’s the fact that a single image has the power to impact and help solve serious problems in the world is what inspires him. “What I like the most in photography is when I have a novel idea that I haven’t seen anywhere else,” explains the photographer. “What I like the least is when copycats try to copy my work, showing a great deal of lack of respect for others and for the artist community.”

“I am what you may call an obsessive artist, in the sense that I won’t stop until I materialize in a photo what is in my head. It’s a great deal of hard work,” says Hugo. “Every day I sit at my desk with white paper and pen and I exercise my brain, trying to have meaningful ideas and interesting projects. What made me get here is my almost uncontrollable desire to create things that haven’t been done before on this planet, or any other in the galaxy. This is what gets me going.”

Hugo captures all of his photos with his mobile phone and adds the finishing touches in Photoshop. “The most important thing for me is the impact and freshness, not how the photo was made,” explains the photographer.
