A Concrete Rainforest Retreat By Gui Mattos

Architect Gui Mattos designed a two-storey concrete home with optimized indoor-outdoor flow on Itamambuca beach and nestled into tranquil rainforest.

Created to allow its inhabitants to enjoy the lush surrounding forest, the house comprises of an elevated ground floor which is set slightly above the terrain, and houses common living areas. The upper storey — which takes the form of an inverted prism propped up on concrete columns — caters for an open-flow and both natural ventilation and insulation. “In a cozy and private atmosphere, the inward areas are combined in a simple and gentle precast wooden structure that lays on top of the concrete slab as if it was just another piece of carefully chosen furniture that composes the whole”, state the architects.
